The Beginning of Second Season Life

I'm Vilmarie, the writer and founder of Second Season Life. I'm also a wife, mother, grandmother, and a woman in her fifties who is still learning a thing or two about herself.

Like many women, I've spent much of my life balancing responsibilities, relationships, expectations, and all the roles we take on along the way. And somewhere in the middle of it all, I began asking different questions.

Not necessarily about starting over, but about what comes next. About the things that still matter, the things that no longer fit, and what it means to build a life that feels more like my own.

That's where Second Season Life began.

I believe midlife deserves more than being treated as an afterthought.

There's something about reaching this stage of life that changes the way we see things. Maybe it's watching our children build lives of their own, navigating changes in our health or relationships, reconsidering old expectations, or simply realizing that our time and energy deserve a little more attention.

Whatever brings us here, the questions often become more personal.

Who am I now? What do I still want? What am I ready to let go of? And perhaps most importantly, how do I want to live the years ahead?

Second Season Life is where I explore those questions, one essay at a time.

I write about identity, relationships, boundaries, personal growth, and the everyday realities of being a woman over 50. Sometimes the reflections are serious. Sometimes they're lighter, because there's plenty about midlife worth laughing about, too.

I don't believe we need to reinvent ourselves every time life changes. Sometimes we simply need room to understand who we've become.

And I certainly don't have everything figured out. I'm still learning, reconsidering, making adjustments, and occasionally surprising myself.

That's part of what makes this season interesting.

My hope is that when you read something here, you'll recognize a little of your own experience. Maybe you'll find a different perspective, a question worth sitting with, or simply the reassurance that someone else has been thinking about the same things.

We don't have to have all the answers to make this season meaningful.

I'm glad you're here.
